Summary

Various improvements to label printing templates and layout options.

Upstream Issues

Requested Features

1. QR Code Positioning

  • QR above text (vertical layout)
  • QR below text
  • QR beside text (current)
  • User selectable position

2. Label Orientation

  • Portrait mode support
  • Better support for 2"×4" thermal labels
  • Landscape (current default)

3. Variable Text Sizing

  • Different font sizes per line
  • First line as title (larger)
  • Subsequent lines smaller
  • Or: template tags for size {large}Name{/large}

4. Emoji Support

  • Render emoji in label templates
  • Currently shows as question marks
  • Use for compact labels (🔴 instead of "Red")

5. Template Presets

  • Save multiple label templates
  • Quick switch between formats
  • "Small label", "Large label", "Swatch label" presets

6. Export to SVG/PDF/HTML

  • Export labels for external printing
  • Better thermal printer compatibility (XPrinter, etc.)
  • Precise dimensions without browser scaling issues
  • SVG for vector quality
  • PDF for universal printing

7. Track Printed Labels

  • label_printed boolean or label_printed_at timestamp on Spool
  • Filter spools by "needs label" / "has label"
  • Auto-mark as printed after print dialog
  • Confirmation dialog when reprinting already-printed labels

Implementation Notes

  • May need different font with emoji support
  • CSS flexbox for layout positioning
  • Store template presets in settings/localStorage
  • Use jsPDF or similar for PDF export
  • SVG generation from label HTML
